Iverotaj 12 Ivermectin Tablets

Iverotaj 12 contains ivermectin, which is used against certain parasitic infections.

• Strongyloidiasis: Oral ivermectin is an established treatment for intestinal infection caused by Strongyloides stercoralis.

• Onchocerciasis: Ivermectin is used for Onchocerca volvulus infection and primarily reduces the parasite's microfilariae.

Ivermectin acts on chloride channels in susceptible parasites, particularly glutamate-gated chloride channels in parasite nerve and muscle cells. This disrupts normal nerve and muscle activity, resulting in paralysis and death of susceptible parasites.

For onchocerciasis, ivermectin acts against microfilariae rather than adult worms. Consequently, medical follow-up and repeat treatment may be required depending on the patient's circumstances.

Ivermectin is an antiparasitic medicine and should not be assumed to treat unrelated bacterial or viral infections.

The appropriate ivermectin dose is determined according to the infection and body weight. A 12 mg tablet should not automatically be taken as one dose simply because it is the available tablet strength.
