Fluvoxamine's authorized uses are not identical in every country.

• United States: FDA-approved fluvoxamine immediate-release tablets are indicated for OCD, specifically for obsessions and compulsions. They are not FDA-approved for major depressive disorder.

• UK: Faverin 100 mg is authorized for major depressive episodes and OCD.

• Canada: Health Canada information for fluvoxamine products supports treatment of depression and OCD in adults.

• Australia: Authorized fluvoxamine products are indicated for major depression in adults and OCD in children aged 8 years and older, adolescents and adults.

Fluvoxamine dosing is individualized according to the condition, age, response, tolerability, other medicines and liver or kidney function.

For current U.S. immediate-release labeling, the general adult OCD reference regimen begins at 50 mg once daily at bedtime, with gradual increases when appropriate; the maximum labeled daily dose is 300 mg, and doses above 100 mg/day should be divided.

UK and Australian labeling for depression and OCD similarly starts treatment at lower doses and increases gradually. A 100 mg tablet therefore does not mean that 100 mg is the correct starting dose for every patient.

Do not increase, decrease, split, combine or discontinue Fluvoxin without medical advice.

Fluvoxin should be taken exactly according to the prescription.

• Take the tablet orally with water.

• It can generally be taken with or without food.

• Take it at the same time each day when possible.

• Swallow the regular tablet as directed; do not substitute the CR formulation unless the prescriber specifically changes the prescription.

• If treatment is being stopped, the dose should generally be reduced gradually rather than stopped suddenly.

Common adverse effects can include:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or indigestion

• Sexual side effects, including reduced libido or difficulty with sexual function

Fluvoxin 100 mg is a prescription SSRI and should be used under medical supervision. Do not stop it abruptly: withdrawal symptoms can include dizziness, sensory disturbances, sleep problems, agitation, anxiety, headache, nausea, sweating, palpitations and tremor. Gradual tapering is generally recommended when treatment is discontinued.

Fluvoxamine can cause serotonin syndrome, particularly when combined with other serotonergic medicines. Symptoms can include agitation, confusion, sweating, rapid heartbeat, fever, muscle rigidity or twitching and gastrointestinal symptoms. Seek urgent medical care if severe symptoms occur.

Extra caution is appropriate in people with liver or kidney impairment, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, a history of mania/hypomania, bleeding disorders or significant drug interactions. Fluvoxamine should not be combined with certain medicines, including MAOIs and tizanidine, because of potentially serious interactions.
