Azicip 250mg Tablet (Azithromycin 250mg)

Azicip 250mg Tablet is used to treat certain bacterial infections caused by organisms that are susceptible to azithromycin.

Depending on the diagnosis, azithromycin may be prescribed for selected bacterial infections involving the respiratory tract, sinuses, throat, lungs, skin and certain genital infections. It is also used for some pediatric bacterial infections under age- and weight-appropriate medical guidance.

Azicip should not be taken for a common cold, flu or another viral illness unless a healthcare professional has diagnosed an appropriate bacterial infection.

 

The main benefit of Azicip is treating susceptible bacterial infections by stopping bacterial protein production.

When azithromycin is appropriate for the organism and infection, treatment can help control bacterial growth and allow the infection to resolve.

Azithromycin also has a relatively long tissue half-life, which allows certain infections to be treated using shorter dosing schedules than some other antibiotics; however, the correct regimen varies by indication and must be prescribed individually. Current labeling includes both three-day and five-day regimens for different conditions.

It should not be described as universally effective or as having “minimal side effects,” because effectiveness depends on bacterial susceptibility and clinically important adverse effects can occur.

Take Azicip 250mg exactly in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your healthcare professional.

Azithromycin tablets can generally be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water and follow the full prescribed treatment schedule.

Do not change the number of tablets based only on the 250mg strength. For example, official azithromycin labeling uses different total doses and durations for pneumonia, sinusitis, skin infections and certain genital infections.

Avoid taking aluminum- or magnesium-containing antacids at the same time as azithromycin unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise. Do not use leftover antibiotics or share them with another person.

Azicip works by blocking bacterial protein synthesis.

Azithromycin binds to 23S ribosomal RNA within the bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit. This interferes with the production of proteins that susceptible bacteria need to grow and function.

By inhibiting this process, azithromycin limits bacterial growth and helps the body's immune system clear the infection.

Because bacteria can develop or carry resistance mechanisms, azithromycin should only be used when medically appropriate.

The most common side effects of azithromycin are gastrointestinal, particularly diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain.

Other possible effects include vomiting, indigestion, headache, dizziness and rash. In multiple-dose adult clinical trials, diarrhea/loose stools, nausea and abdominal pain were among the most frequently reported treatment-related reactions.

Important serious risks include severe allergic reactions, liver injury, prolonged or bloody antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and QT prolongation or abnormal heart rhythms. People with known long-QT syndrome, certain rhythm disorders, low potassium or magnesium, or medicines that prolong the QT interval require particular medical consideration.
