Iverheal USP Tablet

Iverheal contains ivermectin for selected parasitic infections. The appropriate indication depends on the diagnosed parasite and local treatment guidance.

• Intestinal strongyloidiasis: An established indication for oral ivermectin.

• Onchocerciasis: Used against the developing microfilariae associated with river blindness.

• Scabies: Oral ivermectin is used clinically in some settings. In the U.S., it is off-label; CDC guidance describes a weight-based regimen for classic scabies.

• Other parasitic conditions: Ivermectin may be used for selected infections under specialist or local guidance, but the exact approval varies by country.

• COVID-19: Ivermectin is not FDA-approved or authorized for prevention or treatment of COVID-19.

Ivermectin belongs to the avermectin class of antiparasitic medicines. It binds with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride channels found in parasite nerve and muscle cells. This increases chloride-ion permeability, disrupting normal cellular signaling and causing paralysis and death of susceptible parasites. Its activity is not identical against every parasite or life stage. For example, ivermectin affects tissue microfilariae of Onchocerca volvulus but does not kill adult worms. This is why diagnosis, follow-up and condition-specific treatment schedules remain important.

These references do not mean that one 6 mg or 12 mg tablet is automatically an appropriate dose. Ivermectin dosing depends on body weight, infection, age, medical history and the applicable treatment protocol. U.S. labeled ivermectin dosing tables are based on 3 mg tablets. Do not calculate, repeat or increase your dose without professional guidance.

• Take the tablet exactly as prescribed for the diagnosed infection.

• For U.S.-labelled strongyloidiasis or onchocerciasis treatment, ivermectin tablets are taken on an empty stomach with water.

• For oral ivermectin used for scabies, CDC guidance recommends taking it with food to improve absorption.

• Do not substitute veterinary ivermectin products for human tablets.

• Strongyloidiasis may require follow-up stool examinations to confirm eradication.

• Onchocerciasis can require longer-term follow-up because ivermectin does not eliminate adult Onchocerca worms.

Potential adverse effects include:

• Dizziness or light-headedness

• Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

• Abdominal discomfort

• Headache, weakness or fatigue

• Drowsiness or tremor

• Itching, rash or urticaria

Rare but serious neurological reactions have been reported. People with substantial exposure to Loa loa in West or Central Africa require particular medical assessment before treatment. Ivermectin has also been associated with increased INR in some people taking warfarin, so the prescribing clinician should review concurrent medicines before treatment.

Do not use Iverheal if you have a known hypersensitivity to ivermectin or any ingredient in the specific tablet. Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children weighing less than 15 kg. Pregnancy requires medical assessment because adequate controlled human safety data are limited; breastfeeding should also be discussed with a healthcare professional. Older adults may require additional consideration because of concurrent illnesses and medicines.

Patients with significant exposure to Loa loa in endemic areas of West or Central Africa should inform their doctor before taking ivermectin. Serious neurological reactions, including altered consciousness and seizures, have been reported in heavily infected individuals after treatment.

An important Australia-specific issue concerns product authenticity. The TGA has tested imported, unregistered Iverheal-12 samples and reported that the tested products contained less ivermectin than the labelled 12 mg amount. This finding relates to specific imported counterfeit products and should not be interpreted as evidence that every Iverheal pack is counterfeit. Customers should use legitimate supply channels and check packaging carefully.

Do not use excessive ivermectin doses or veterinary ivermectin products. Seek urgent medical attention for severe confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness, breathing difficulty or a serious allergic reaction.
