FEBUTAZ 80MG (FEBUXOSTAT)

This drug belongs to the class of xanthine oxidase inhibitors. It works by inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, then inhibits the conversion of hypoxanthine to xanthine to uric acid without affecting the enzymes involved in the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.

• Swallow the tablets with a glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or break
• You should take this medicine for as long as you are prescribed.
• You can take the tablet with or without food. as per your doctor’s prescription.

Missed dose

 

If you miss a dose of FEBUTAZ 80mg, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip it and take the next one. Do not double the dose to make up for it.

 

Overdose

 

Seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor in case of overdose.

Interactions with the disease

 

Secondary hyperuricemia

 

This medicine is not recommended in patients with malignant disease, tumor lysis syndrome, or Lesch-Nyhan syndrome in whom uric acid levels are very high.

 

 Interaction with alcohol

 

The interaction with alcohol is unknown. It is advisable to consult a doctor before use.

Major and minor side effects for FEBUTAZ 80mg tablets are;

 

• Abdominal pain
• Unexpected weight gain or loss
• Throat irritation
• Blurred vision
• Itching or rash
• Pale skin
• Yellow-colored eyes or skin
• Chest discomfort
• Fast heartbeat
• Decreased interest in sexual intercourse

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

Warnings for Women

Pregnancy: pregnant women cannot use this medicine

Breastfeeding: Breastfeeding women cannot take this medicine

GENERAL WARNINGS

Exacerbation of gout

Flare-ups of gout may occur after starting treatment due to changes in serum uric acid levels. Stop treatment until symptoms disappear completely. At the same time, prevention of exacerbation of gout with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or colchicines should be started for up to 6 months.

Cardiovascular events

This medication is not recommended in patients with coronary artery disease due to the risk of cardiovascular thromboembolic events such as myocardial infarction, stroke.

Liver dysfunction

This medication is known to cause liver failure. Obtain baseline liver function tests before starting treatment. Treatment should be discontinued if the level of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) exceeds the reference range by more than 3 times.

Impaired renal function

The drug should be used with caution in patients with severe renal impairment (CrCl less than 30 ml/min).

Asymptomatic hyperuricemia

This medication is not recommended for patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia.

STORAGE

Store in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children. Do not use the medicine after the expiry date.
